How to Plan Power Outlets and Charging Points for a Modern Gadget-Heavy Home

Must read

We live in a world of chargers—phones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, speakers, appliances. Poorly planned power points mean messy extension boards everywhere.

In the living room, plan outlets near where you’ll actually sit, not just along random walls. Sofas and armchairs need nearby charging for phones and laptops. TV units need multiple points for TV, set-top box, router, sound system, maybe a console.

In bedrooms, have sockets near both sides of the bed if there are two people. Everyone wants their own charging point and perhaps a bedside lamp or alarm clock.

The kitchen needs several outlets along the counter for mixer, toaster, kettle, induction, and occasional gadgets. Don’t cluster them all in one corner; spread them logically.

Think about work-from-home needs—a dedicated desk area with enough plug points and maybe a surge protector for electronics.

Finally, consider a few extra points for future devices. It’s much cheaper to add them while wiring is open than to keep adding multi-plugs and tangled wires later.
