How to Use the Terrace for Community Activities Without Damaging the Roof

Must read

Terraces are great assets for apartment communities—morning walks, yoga, small events, kids’ games. But heavy use can quietly damage the roof if nobody plans it properly.

First, agree on what’s allowed. Light activities like walking, stretching, or small group yoga are usually fine. Very heavy equipment, huge gatherings, or placing permanent structures without approval can stress the slab.

Avoid dragging metal chairs, tables or gym equipment across the surface. They can scrape waterproofing layers and create future leak points. Encourage residents to lift and place items instead.

Make sure drains stay clear. If people eat, decorate, or bring plants, bits of food, plastic, and soil can clog outlets. Designate a cleanup routine after events so the terrace doesn’t slowly become a dumping ground.

If kids use the terrace often, set some safety rules—no climbing railings, no throwing things down, no playing near edges.

Used respectfully, the terrace becomes a real community space. Used carelessly, it becomes a future repair bill for everyone.
