A house doesn’t fall apart overnight. Issues build slowly. A simple one-hour monthly check can catch small problems before they become expensive repairs.
Pick one fixed day—maybe the first Sunday of every month. Walk through the house with a calm, observant eye.
In bathrooms and kitchens, look for early signs of dampness, mould, loose tiles, or silicone coming off around sinks and counters. Check under sinks for drips. A bit of tightening or resealing now can save you a full leak later.
Test all fans and lights quickly. Anything flickering, noisy, or not turning on should go on a “to-fix” list. Also press doorbells, intercoms, and exhaust fans once in a while.
Open and close windows and balcony doors. If they’re starting to jam, scrape, or not lock properly, note it. Don’t wait until they refuse to shut in heavy rain.
Glance at walls and ceilings for new cracks or stains, especially after monsoon or major weather changes.
Finally, peek at major appliances—fridge coils, AC outdoor units (visually), purifier indicators, and surge protectors. You’re not doing deep servicing, just staying aware.
One hour a month isn’t much, but it keeps you in control instead of being surprised by “suddenly” big issues.
